Sometimes Alice does not want to go inside to roost with the flock. She seems happy to be scooped up and placed in a special secluded spot where she roosts alone.
The dog that attacked Beverly dragged her down the street and dropped her at the his owner's doorstep. The owner opened the door and Beverly tumbled inside of the house. She was very lucky to survive the trip down the block and suffered from deep dog bites.
Bummy likes to look at herself in the mirror and is by far one of the sweetest and affectionate hens on the planet.
Bummy was born with huge feet and crooked toes. She wore a shoe made out of tape which straightened out her toes. The second after we were done wrapping her toes with the tape, she took off running.
Clover was best friends with the Silver Dollar.
Elvira taught me that a chicken will catch and tear up a mouse. She violently went after the mouse and would have crashed through a brick wall to get it if she could.
Flower is a sweet hen with a crazy hairdo.
Sometimes she will lay her egg while she is sitting in my lap.
Greta takes first place for being the hardest to catch. She is tiny and can run and fly super fast.
Greta is always seen with Gordon.
One evening Juanita would not go into the henhouse to roost. She spent most of the night sleeping on my lap. The next morning she began to behave as if she was in charge. She was the head hen from then on.

Watching Valerie and Verlane take turns jumping straight up trying to reach the leaves hanging from the chinaberry tree one beautiful morning.

We chased after and stopped the hawk from tearing Ivanhoe apart, but we were too late as the hawk was successful in breaking his neck.
We are forever sad. We will never know what he would have looked like grown up. He had beautiful colorful feathers like a flower.
If it is not possible to hang fishing line over our heads, the chickens are vulnerable to the hawks. Lesson learned: A big farm is not a better farm.
Twice after Joey has watched me enter the house and close the front door, he remained standing for a minute then walked around to the back of the house looking for me.

Rocky has fun when we chase him around the yard.

All the hens seem to like Salvatore the most.
Sid Vicious is really shy and sweet in spite of his name.
The fight was quickly determined Sid Vicious would step down to Winchester.
The Silver Dollar was a very beautiful bird.
His best friend was Clover.
If we had raised him he would still be alive today. His mistrust and tendency to panic sent him flying into the wrong yard.
Biggest, beautiful, blue feet.
Sprite is a huge bird and it feels good to hug him. Sprite will let me carry him anywhere, hold him upside down, and even if I give him a bath he is always relaxed.

After taking his first taste of yogurt, Victor quickly lifted his head to look up at me for a few seconds, then he plunged his head into the bowl, covering his whole head with yogurt.
Victor sat quietly on a wooden high chair next to me watching movies until certain things got his attention. When someone appeared with a guitar, Victor never failed to sit up straight and chatter on and on until the guitar disappeared.
